On Monday night we travelled on the Caledonian Sleeper from Euston Station to Fort William. I read about this journey on a website called Seat61 which we used when planning our train travel two years ago. Seat61 describes it as one of his favourites and it was pretty awesome...Seat61 has a lot more information...saves me typing it in !
If you have 4 mins to spare there is a video showing the last part of the journey and the spectacular scenery. Bear in mind that it was taken by a train enthusiast ....Video link
The rest of the day we spent driving from Fort William to Inverness following the Lochs and Caledonian Canal system.
So far we have had particulary spectacular Scottish weather!!

We visited Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness, didn't see Nessie, she must have been out for the day...
We watched a video about the castle and found it was an old ancestorial home of mine !!
My maiden name was Grant so lots of references every where...
Think I may have left it a bit late to make any claim ..

ReplyDeleteLooks a bit chilly...
Mmmm...is the shortbread better in Scotland then in Australia..it must be as it did originate in Scotland..did you know that the name of one of the most famous and most traditional forms of shortbread, petticoat tails, were named by Queen Mary. This type of shortbread was baked, cut into triangular wedges, and flavored with caraway seeds.
How that for useless information?
Great video and site...did not know this was such an attraction...and the beds look nearly comfortable! Did you have view as you did it in the night?
ReplyDeleteThe train trip is organised so you wake up at about the same time as the beautiful scenery starts. We were awake about 6 am and watched the scenery while having breakfast in the lounge car until we arrived at 10 am. Amazing....
ReplyDeleteThe beds were ok very well sprung ! Love the idea of the shorbread with caraway seeds.
